My Friend Is Gone

You never knew
How much I cherished you
I miss you today as if you were gone
My words never conveyed this feeling
The reasons why this friendship went wrong
I wish that you could hear this heartfelt reasoning
My silence was the pain that never should have been felt
Please forgive me for what I should have spoke to you each day
Forgive me my friend for we are gone now and this silence is all you knew

awww, this is a well written poem which expressed your regrets of never really telling your friend how much you cared for him or her. The only part that confused me was in the begining you say “miss you today as if you were gone” – sounds like this friend is not gone yet… which would be fine, but later you say “Forgive me my friend for we are gone now…” which implies that you two are apart. I’m just wondering which is it. Or I’m missing something completely in my ignorance. Overall though, I was touched and saddened by this poem. You envoked those feelings and that means something.
Thank you. The current tense in the first part was written to indicate the feeling was of being separated, but still friends. The past tense at the end was to indicate that the friend had indeed left.
I was shooting for a subtle hope in the beginning and a loss at the end.
Ah, so it was intended. It’s great then!
